Apple has taken its online Apple Store offline while it “makes updates”, and it is expected to remain offline until after the event ends.

As is traditionally the case, Apple took the online store offline just hours before a major launch event. In this case, the event is the “Peek Performance”, which is expected to include at least a new iPhone SE, but may contain much more.

Apple never says when the store will reopen, other than asking users to “come back soon.” However, the event kicks off at 1 p.m. Eastern.

Recent events tend to last about an hour, so it’s likely the store will reopen around 2 p.m. Eastern.

What to Expect at Apple’s Spring Event

Apple has a large number of rumored products that will be launched in the course of 2022. While some are expected to arrive later in the year, such as the usual “iPhone 14” fall refresh, there is a collection of products that could be showing up at this earlier event.

The main focus will likely be on the iPhone SE, with a third-generation device expected to offer 5G connectivity for the first time. Some rumors point to it being a spec bump while keeping the same design as the second-generation model, complete with a 4.7-inch display and Touch ID.

The iPad Air 5 would also be a potential candidate for the event, with speculation that it will have similar feature upgrades to the iPad mini 6, including an upgrade to the A15 Bionic. 5G connectivity and an upgrade of the FaceTime HD camera to a 12-megapixel ultra-wide version with Center Stage support have also been touted.

On the Mac side, a revised Mac mini is a strong choice for launch, and is expected to enjoy an upgrade from the M1 to the M1 Pro and M1 Max. The design is also expected to receive a major overhaul, with a thinner chassis, more ports on the back and a magnetic power connector.

More recently, there have been discussions about the “Mac Studio”. The new form factor would be somewhere between the Mac mini and Mac Pro, with performance surpassing that of the Mac mini.

Rumor has it that the new desktop will be released simultaneously with a new display from Apple. It’s not yet clear whether this is the rumored 7K display or will come below the existing Pro Display XDR.
