While the Alpine Green color is the only color Apple added to the iPhone 13 Pro at its latest Apple event, it’s a welcome addition to the lineup. Here’s what it looks like.
At its spring event Peek Performance, Apple released two new versions of its latest handset. This is starting to become commonplace for Apple as a way to boost the mid-life sales of a new iPhone.
In previous years, it released (PRODUCT) Red versions of its devices and last year we got a new purple color for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini. This year we got two new shades of green, not only for the basic phones, but also for the pro models.
The iPhone 13 is now available in “green”, while the iPhone 13 Pro is a random shade of Alpine Green.
A new professional colorway
Alpine Green joins Sierra Blue, graphite, gold and silver in the iPhone 13 Pro range. Apple tinted both the stainless steel frame and frosted glass back.

The color doesn’t always stand out because of that matte back on the pro iPhones. Depending on lighting conditions, it may look faded and almost silvery in some, but rich and vibrant in others. It looks neat and we prefer this shade over the Midnight Green iPhone 11 Pro.
However, all of Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro colors still feel muted. Not on the pastel level, but the Sierra Blue, Green, and Gold aren’t particularly saturated. The less muted colors belong to the iPhone 13 non-pro lineup.
This is partly due to the process required to paint the metal inside the phone. But some of it isn’t, and we still wonder if there’s anything other than chemistry and stylistic choices behind the color decisions.

The phone’s color stood out more when we took it out into the real world, away from our bright studio lights. The warm rays of the sun in the early evening seemed to accentuate the saturation of the greenery.
iPhone 13 — no pro
We chose not to pick up a standard green version of the iPhone 13, but did try them out in the store. The glossy back of the iPhone 13 makes the color appear a bit darker because the matte surface of the iPhone 13 Pro can diffuse the light a bit.

When the light is the same, it seems that green on the iPhone 13 is a bit darker than that of the iPhone 13 Pro.
As all iPhone 13 models tend to do, it still picked up quite a bit of dust and compounds, which was more apparent on the glossy surface.
We doubt anyone will choose their iPhone purely based on the saturation of this green color, but it’s more of a comparison between the two different backs Apple uses.
Where to buy
The two new colored iPhones are now available to order from both Apple and third-party retailers. They include the same accessories as any iPhone, including a Lightning to USB-C cable and a single white Apple sticker.
