What are Ear Gauges?

Ear gauges are an increasingly popular form of body jewelry worn in stretched piercings. They are hollow tubes with an opening at one end that allows them to slide into the piercing hole. The other end typically has either a flat disc or an acrylic ball that sits flush against the earlobe once inserted. They come in many shapes and sizes, from small gauge plugs (8mm) up to larger gauged tunnels (50mm or greater). While most often seen as decorative items, ear gauges can also be used for medical purposes such as providing ventilation for infected earlobes.

Types of Ear Gauges

There are several different types of ear gauges available on the market today. Some popular options include:

• Taper plugs – These consist of two pieces—an insertable plug with one rounded end and one tapered end, and a removable disc with an inner threading that screws onto the tapered end of the plug when inserted into the piercing hole. This type is generally easier to insert than other forms of ear gauges as it starts with a smaller size at one end and gradually increases in size until it reaches the desired diameter at the other end.

• Tunnels – Also known as “hangers” or “expanders”, these plugs feature two discs connected by a hollow tube between them. This allows sound waves to travel through both sides of your piercing while still keeping your ears secure without having to stretch them further than necessary. They come in various sizes ranging from 8mm up to 50mm or more depending on what look you’re going for.

• Spirals – These are similar to tunnels but feature twisted spirals instead of discs attached by a hollow tube between them. Like tunnels, they provide ventilation while still keeping your ears secure without having to stretch too much further than necessary, but they also bring some unique decorative flair with their intricate design!

•Barbells – These consist of two balls connected by a bar which goes through your piercing hole when inserted like any standard body jewelry item would. Their symmetrical design makes them great for creating balance between each side while still being able to mix and match different colors/designs per side if desired!
